Deeply explore one yoga pose each month
Are you really in Sukhasana? Shins need to be parallel with feet hidden under opposite knee.
Sit in the pose for a long time – 5-10 minutes. What comes up?
Compare being on a lift and not. What changes?
How is this pose different from Siddhasana? Compare the two. When would one be more appropriate than the other?

My preference is turning the head away from me feet. I find it is a more complete twist for me. I need to be sure I turn from my neck root to keep my neck feeling secure.
I like to turn my head toward my shoulder rather than to look at my foot because I feel like I am getting a deeper twist. However, I do also like the variation of looking at my extended foot because it brings my awareness to the extended leg/foot and helps me feel energy in that leg and foot. Sometimes when I turn toward the shoulder, I feel nothing in that extended leg and foot.
I prefer to look behind. It feels much more natural and I feel a deeper twist. I do notice a major difference between the two variations. To me, they feel like to different poses.
I agree that the two poses feel completely different! As I have played with this one more, I find that what while I like turning my head with the twist, I enjoy turning toward the foot too because it is unexpected. It encourages my body to do something different!
Definitely different! Turning back feels so much more comfortable and familiar. Is it just habit? Turning my head toward my feet felt awkward. It also caused strain in my neck on that side of my neck. I get a much nicer stretch in my neck looking back.
