Deeply explore one yoga pose each month
Are you really in Sukhasana? Shins need to be parallel with feet hidden under opposite knee.
Sit in the pose for a long time – 5-10 minutes. What comes up?
Compare being on a lift and not. What changes?
How is this pose different from Siddhasana? Compare the two. When would one be more appropriate than the other?

I mix it up and sometimes start on right, sometimes on left. The issue for me is if I want to experience the joy in the pose right away or save it--I have much more ease in the pose when I am standing on my right foot so sometimes I want to experience that right away but often I want to "save the best for last!"

In my own practice, I ALWAYS begin by lifting my right leg. It is very easy to move all the way into the pose and feel very grounded and steady. If I start by lifting the left foot, my body is confused. I do not feel as grounded or steady. If I start with the left side, then do the right, my body wants me to do the left side again - so I do it three times! I'm not sure why this is true for me.
Because I mirror my students when I teach this pose, I often am switching sides. I taught it tonight and realized that it doesn't make any difference at all. I enjoy both sides equally. Frankly, I was expecting to see a preference and was surprised not to!
