Deeply explore one yoga pose each month
Are you really in Sukhasana? Shins need to be parallel with feet hidden under opposite knee.
Sit in the pose for a long time – 5-10 minutes. What comes up?
Compare being on a lift and not. What changes?
How is this pose different from Siddhasana? Compare the two. When would one be more appropriate than the other?

I love both. I love the reach and extension and connection to the sky when my arms are up. It can also get me a bit adrenalized so then I need to keep the hands in front of my chest which is much more peaceful and calming for me. When I teach the pose, I usually give the class a choice. Of course, most usually follow what I am doing!
I prefer hands in front of my chest. Very calming and centering for me.
I love both, as well. When I thought about it I tend to do both each time a do tree pose. Starting with hands at the heart center and then either opening up arms to the sides and overhead with hands apart or keeping palms together rising from the center and keeping palms together. I usually come back to the heart center before coming out of the pose. Grounding, then lifting, then back to grounding.
I like both too but also for different reasons. Hands overhead gives me a wonderful stretch that is energizing and hands in front is calming and meditative. One of my favorite things--to do the pose with hands in front early in the morning in my little courtyard while the birds are singing.
